Your First Session
Prior to our first session, I will send necessary paperwork to complete online, so that our first session is not overly dense and filled only with information gathering. Instead, our first session becomes an honest and more casual conversation about intentions in seeking therapy and goals the client would like to achieve, all while slowly building rapport, towards a strengthening therapeutic alliance.
Why I Became a Therapist
Like many of my colleagues, I have witnessed and experienced untreated mental illness amongst family and friends, as well as was often utilized for support for these same family members and friends. This has urged me to pursue a career in which I can support those who are in need, and increase access to mental healthcare as a whole.
Deep Dive: My Specialties
Anxiety: By utilizing interventions drawn from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I support clients in challenging their anxious thoughts and impulses, so that they may find relief in their day to day lives. Trauma/PTSD: I provide a safe space and guided journey for client's to process and heal from their trauma in a way that feels comfortable and secure. Interventions derived from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, such as radical acceptance and emotion regulation, assist the client in moving forward and focusing on the present and future. Eating Disorders: I understand that eating disorders involve not only our mental health, but our physical health as well. I meet clients where they are at, focusing on safety and harm reduction, while partnering - where applicable - with client's medical team to ensure that sustainable wellness is achieved.
When I'm Not in the Office
I am an avid walker (ask me about my step goals), preferably outside! I also love exploring new places in the city, especially if it means some good food is involved. While at home, I'm either getting crafty with a new project, playing some video games, or making my way through my long list of recommend shows, movies, or books. Either way, at least one of my two cats is competing with whatever it is I'm doing for my attention.
